ACTIVITIES

Activities.

The European Society of Culture (SEC) promotes studies, research, seminars, conferences, meetings and intellectual exchanges, fostering dialogue among different perspectives, experiences and areas of expertise and encouraging exchange across national, political and disciplinary boundaries.

Its activities also include the publication of the journal Comprendre, dedicated to reflection and debate on cultural, political and social issues of European and international significance. Through the journal, the SEC provides a space for in-depth discussion and exchange among scholars, intellectuals and other figures active in cultural life.

The SEC's activities bring together researchers, writers, academics, artists and other cultural actors, creating opportunities for encounters, exchange and in-depth discussion.

Throughout its history, the SEC has played a pioneering role in promoting dialogue among people of culture from different political and ideological backgrounds, with particular attention to dialogue between Western and Eastern Europe. Through its activities and its national centres across Europe, it has contributed to the development of an international network devoted to intercultural dialogue, peace and the promotion of shared cultural values.

The SEC also carries out educational and training activities, independently or in cooperation with other organisations, and promotes cultural and social initiatives and events aimed at encouraging active participation in cultural and social life.

Through these activities, the SEC seeks to maintain a vibrant international space for dialogue, in which culture can contribute to mutual understanding, exchange and the building of a European society founded on shared values.

Institutional relationships

The European Society of Culture (SEC) develops and supports partnerships with academic, cultural and civic institutions in Italy and across Europe, with the aim of expanding opportunities for dialogue and promoting joint initiatives.

Among the European institutions with which the SEC has developed cooperative relationships are the European University Institute (EUI) and the Historical Archives of the European Union in Florence, where the SEC's historical archive has been deposited.

On 11 November 2021, the SEC's historical collection was formally presented at the European University Institute in Fiesole, during a ceremony attended both in person and remotely by European authorities, scholars and archivists.

The SEC is a cultural Institute recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture (MIC) and a member of the Association of the Italian Cultural Institutions (AICI).

The SEC also maintains particularly close cooperation with the Fondazione Nazionale Carlo Collodi (FNCC), on the basis of a Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2017.

These partnerships and institutional relationships represent an important component of the SEC's activities and contribute to strengthening its European and international dimension.
